Not every post here is going to be about a course or a certification — sometimes it’s just about the people who actually make diving possible. I rented my equipment for my PADI Open Water training from the Dive Factory shop in Wezembeek-Oppem, Belgium — they also have a second location in Braine-l’Alleud — and I wanted to write about why I’d genuinely recommend them.
What they actually offer
Dive Factory sells and rents a full range of scuba and freediving equipment, fills tanks, and services regulators and other gear. They’re actually affiliated with SSI rather than PADI for their own courses — which, after writing about why the certification agency barely matters, felt like a nice bit of proof that renting from one agency’s shop while training with another is completely normal.
Really friendly, really helpful
This is the actual review part: the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful when we popped in. They speak both English and French, which mattered less for me than it might have, because my dad speaks French — but it still made the whole visit easy and relaxed rather than stressful, at a point when my own French was still pretty shaky.
They talked us through the equipment properly rather than just handing it over, and didn’t make me feel like a nuisance for asking questions as a fairly new diver. That matters more than it sounds like it should — a shop that makes a nervous beginner feel comfortable is doing something right.
My rating
Five stars, entirely for how friendly and helpful the staff were. If you’re anywhere near Braine-l’Alleud or Wezembeek-Oppem and need equipment, air, or servicing, I’d go back without hesitation.
